Richard S. Duardo, renowned artist and master printer, has been an advocate of the arts in Los Angeles for over 25 years. Considered the "West Coast-Warhol," Duardo was honored by the National Endowment for the Arts and named "The Artist of the Year" in 1988 by the California Arts Commission. As a printmaker, Duardo has produced a vast body of serigraphs, his preferred medium. Since 1980, his fine art print studios have produced the works of over 400 artists, including art-icons Shepard Fairey, Banksy, Ron English, Blek Le Rat, Raymond Pettibon, David Hockney, John Van Hamersveld and Keith Haring. In 2000, Duardo was commissioned by the son and daughter of the late Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa to create a portfolio of ten portraits of Akira Kurosawa in a small, exclusive edition of only thirty portfolios. Duardo's most recent milestone is "The Chicano Collection," a portfolio of 26 limited-edition and archival quality reproductions of paintings by prominent Chicano artists in "Cheech" Marin's private art collection. The prints depict images of urban life and the Chicano experience during 1969 through 2001. The Chicano Collection is currently being archived by major universities and museums throughout the United States. Duardo is a graduate of UCLA in graphic design, and has exhibited in Japan, Mexico, Germany, and New York. Many major universities, including University of California, Santa Barbara's Department of Chicano Studies, University of San Antonio and Stanford University, collect his studio archives. |
